LCD and keyboard upgrade

Hi All,

New registered user but I have been coming for almost a year reading up on various things and I have two questions that i havent seen answered before. I have upgraded my M5550 in several ways, new core2duo t7200 and a ATI mobility Radeon HD3650 both of which are very nice from previous hardware, but one thing is still sub-par in my book the LCD screen its resolution is 1280x800 which is okay but i was wondering if and how big I could upgrade my 15.4 inch screen. Second, where is there a good place to buy new keyboards for an m5550 i have found a couple places and they are over $100 and that is quite ridiculous.

Thanks any help!

Yes i have tried ebay, 0 keyboards on there and there is a 1920x1080 LCD panel but is it a direct drop in replacement or would i need to change inverters ?

Usually if you buy an LCD it comes with the inverter. The flex cable is usually optional but your existing one should work. Verify the information with the seller.

The LCD panel on ebay just says it comes with panel only. From your last post i gather you need to replace the inverter when upgrading the LCD

Something I never thought about because it always came with an inverter when I've purchased it in the past. I would actually assume it would work with the existing one.

If your laptop had that same screen as a option it should work.

Where I seen problems is older generation inverters used with newer displays screens.

There is a BIOS level communication between the GPU - Inverter and Screen and as long as they can talk to each other nicely it will work.
