m17x wont post during bios, sometimes..

when i received my m17x it had AO1 bios installed and i never had any issues or glitches during startup with this bios.. I recently flashed the bios to AO2 and sometimes not always but intermittently the bios will not post.. when i push the power button the laptop turns on, leds and keyboard light up and the fans kick on but i get no bios screen or the alien head display but the computer continues to run but will not boot into windows.. i have to do a hard shut down and start again and then it will post and everything works fine.. do you think i could have had a bad flash and should i reflash back to AO1?? dont know what to do... could i have a mobo issue???

You may have a bad flash - you can try to revert to A01 and see what happens

it should help confirm that there is nothing wrong with the system board

This happens to me every once in a while also and it happened with my first M17x. I always attributed it to the OC'ing I was doing with the system. Heck my Thinkpad does it also but less frequently.

you know but you maybe right.. i dont recall it happening when the cpu was at its default speed but i did have it overclocked for some time at 3.5ghz when running the T9600 at 1333mhz FSB. boy that cpu screamed at that speed but i know longer run it like that due to more than likely stability issues.. i'm lucky i didnt smoke the cpu..

Just for curiosity, how about running the comp without battery for a while and see any differences? I remember in the past that after OC-ing on my comps, doing this (running without battery) helped the system starting up and shutting down without hiccup.

cheers ...

CPU won't smoke with the BIOS OC but it probably won't live as long. Now if we could add more voltage then we could really see sparks.
