backlight not lighting W340 UI

Thread Starter
I'm working on a Gateway W340-UI notebook. The panel is displaying images - you can see them when you shine a flashlight on the panel. I've removed the panel and plugged the backlight bulb into another computer's inverter and it will light up. I've replaced the inverter in the W340 but it still will not go.

Does anyone know what signal information should be on the input to the inverter that I might be able to see with a scope? I'm thinking there's something on the motherboard that's messed up or do the signals to the inverter come from the panel itself?

I have no idea what I'm looking for. Perhaps a new computer.

thanks for your comments and advice.

My take is that if you need to put a flash light and be able to see the screen then the backlight is failing. You only replaced the inverter, but I would replace the backlight as well. And yes, I took note that you "tested" the backlight with another machine.

cheers ...
