M17x and DPC Latency - Page 3

From what I have read it has happened on some of the M17x-R1 Laptops, just not as much. again the integrated 9400 GPU, and the NVIDIA Storage drivers all seem to have some role in the issue as well.

But sadly the 4870/5870 performs so well that this is another "poor decision" by Nvidia.

Anyway, the 5870's are going to change the game for sure. With I7, this notebook will do very well
I read somewhere that there is a logic reason as why on notebooks there will be no combo quad-SLI (or CrossFire) models. Need to dig it up.

cheers ...

Just to clarify is this DPC latency only with nvidia videocards or is it all the m17x's with the nvidia chipset? I have the 4870's in crossfire and am having the same problem. Dell replaced my video cards today even after i told them that wasn't the problem. The dell tech guy called in and told them that it wasn't the problem but they banned him from my case. My M17x still will not play anything without stuttering like crazy.

it's the NVIDIA chipset

most of the issues are with the NVIDIA cards but some have been found with the ATI ones as well

I'm about to call tech support and demand a replacement with a revision 2 m17x. I am still within my 30 day return policy and if they don't agree then I will return it and get my money back. I will post what happens.

You should be able to return it as you are within your 30 days, I think they go by the ship date so make sure you check on that.

My ship date was Nov. 22/09 but I didn't get my notebook until Dec. 5/09 so they wouldn't replace the system when I called on Dec. 28/09. I have had problems with my notebook since I got it so far the motherboard has been replaced and now they are replacing my Nvidia cards for the ATI 4870's.

My ship is 1-19-10. I had the tech guy out yesterday and they pretty much hung up on him when he said they needed to replace my system after i showed him the forums here and on dell's forums. He called back to talk to them again and they told him he was locked out of my case.

Why would they lock him out of your case? It sounds like your best bet would be to return it.

When he agreed with me about needing a new system and called in for them to do it they didn't like it. He said that this was his first time dealing with an alienware machine but he was very mad that they treated him like that. He said that if he would have came and worked on a dell labeled machine and called in to say the system needed exchanged that there wouldn't have been any further discussion. He was very disgusted when he left. He gave me his personal cell phone number and told me that if i didn't get something resolved today that he would try again. Very disappointed in the support with dell/alienware this time around.

well they can't refuse you returning the laptop in the 30 day window so go that route, and let them know your not happy - hopefully ill get you some discounts

it maybe cheaper to get the refund and just re-order as well

I agree with Dave here. Try with another representative as well.

cheers ...

I have spent about 3 hours total on the phone with them today and have recieved no help at all. They are also telling me that the return policy is only 21 days and that it starts the day the laptop ships not when it is delivered. That means today is my last chance to return it. They have left me no choice but to return it. I let them know how there reputation is being affected by this problem and there lack of resolve for it. They will never get another dime of my money again.

Did they change it to 30 days? I thought it was 21 days from invoice.
