M17x and DPC Latency - Page 4

I have the ati 4870's to begin with but my stuttering problem is still significant

You really want the R2 - it is a better unit hands down

I have initiated the return. Saying it will take a while to get my money returned though. When i get my money back i guess i will order a revision 2 system barring some major design flaws arise in it as well

maybe by then the 5870 GPU will be out

Along with a price adjustment They are really behind a few models in this aspect; well at least one that I know of.

Ok the Dell tech replaced my video cards, he loaded the Dell drivers and made sure the system saw both cards and that the system booted.

Now my fans stay on all the time, the cpu is running at approx. 74%, I ran the video stability test and it fails after about 1 min stating that it detected freezing, also I am getting spikes on the dpc latency not as bad as the nVidia but they are still there.

Should I use the Ati drivers?

OK your video test fails? Your fans run all the time? CPU 74%? And you are worried about DPC latency? Not sure your main problem but do not think DPC?

The dpc latency does spike not as bad as the nVidia cards and am getting the stuttering in movies and youtube so it doesn't seem to have fixed any issues that I was having.

I was hoping that the Ati cards would fix the dpc latency and the stuttering. I will run more tests this weekend and try the Ati drivers to see if that makes a difference.

I guess I will have to call again, I have been calling them since Dec. I should have requested a replacment before my 30 days were up.

Dell is usesless on this issue and I have washed my hands of them

Huh, I must be charmed: I've bought an Alienware (when AW was separate from Dell btw) and several Dells over the years and I have only had 1 problem and that was a PSU burnout on a Dell desktop, which was taken care of...

Just call and explain nicely that things got worse after the tech's visit. They don't want to keep paying to send a tech there needlessly any more than you, so at some point they should give you some alternatives. Just be sure your "alternatives" come with the same warranty your original machine had so you aren't a step behind where you started. The r2's have some issues, but they are overall sizeably improved over the R1's. It takes patience but you'll get through this I'm sure.

Think it's time Dell declares the R1 a bust and issue R2 replacements

Well after months of having a notebook that barely worked, the mainboard, the video cards have been replaced, the o/s reinstalled numerous times, Alienware tech support loading all the dirvers, trying all the different fixes etc. they have determined that they can't fix my notebook and are going to exchange it. I am still waiting for the order number but I do have a dispatch number. It is really too bad that it had to go on for months before they would exchange it, here's hopeing the new notebook works better or at least works.

I wish you all the best with that.
