...partnering to bring "real" 3D to notebooks!

ASUS G51J 3D is positioning itself to be the 1st to offer Nvidia's 3D Vision technology, associating with what one experiences in the movie theatre.

In order to obtain this performance, the notebook supports a 15.6" LCD running at 120 Hz (current LCD is at 60Hz) to accommodate the Nvidia 3D Vision technology.

Note that this is an expansion/upgrade from the current G51J model that was just being earlier this month - with a totally "3D" LCD (??)

The notebook, tentatively priced at $1.700 (according to news feeds) comes with a pair of 3D glasses and an infrared controller.

Reading some more about this model, it is being mentioning that Amazon would be the first to sell it. But there is no mentioning of this anywhere on their site for pre-order.

3D vision on a laptop sounds really cool, but i guess my question is how does it work? Cus if you buy a 3d laptop and the games you play and the movies you watch are still rendered in 2d, as they were originally designed, is the only thing that you can see in 3d the desktop?

If so, sounds like graphics technology is a bit too advanced in this computer for practical users. But if it can render movies and video games in 3d, then that would be sweeeeeeeeeet.

How does it take the exact same data from a DVD drive and make it 3d, or does it not do that at all?

I am being looking into the nVidia 3D Vision Technology to learn a bit more what they try to achieve. The "120Hz" on the screen is what I think really would make the difference, allowing some tweaking effects to make films and video games projecting in "3D" (that's what the glass is for ) And I am sure that games and films will come out with 3D version, just like with blu-ray disks.

I haven't heard about it yet, but I do know ATI can send concurrent signals to up to 6 displays

It's crazy how fast the industry changes. We started seeing 3D movies this year, Avatar in December is going to blow people away, 3D-HDTVs are hitting production next year... and now 3D notebooks....
