2nd hard drive replacing CD drive

Hello

I have a satellite pro A120 xp sp3.

I've been trying to get it to recognise a 2nd hard drive on the secondary ide channel but it won't. Cd drive has been removed and replaced with one of these, the with the pata to sata interface.

http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&products_id=245

The second hard drive is a seagate sata 500 GB drive. Drive is spinning and recieving power but not showing up in storage management or device manager.

In the Bio's (uptodate) it shows me this but won't let me edit it.

Drives I/O

Built in HDD = serial ATA port 0

CD rom = Secondary ide (170H - IRQ 15)

To me the hardware is capable of supporting two HDD's as long as you remove cd drive but it seems like the bio's is locking me out of deselecting CD rom on the second IDE channel.

Please could some one point me in the right direction to resolve this.

Thanks

Zander

Looking at the same link you provided, there is a section of the slim bay drive for Toshiba. Maybe there is some difference, as these bay drive are very much model specific according to what I read.

I spoke a lot with the vender and he picked the one I'm using for my model of laptop.

The one's you linked to are not for my model.

The caddy works great, fits in the slot and is powering the drive ok. Windows just won't see it.

Good. No, I just linked to show that there is Toshiba specific bay drive as example. But you had done the right thing speaking direct with the seller before buying.

Have you tried with a smaller drive size just to test out? Maybe it is an issue with XP?

Tried swapping the drives and no joy. It won't even boot when my main boot drive is in the new hard drive bay.

Tried uninstalling the CD drive in device manager and then booting without the 2nd hard drive in the bay. Bios does not show CD drive but then as soon as I put the 2nd hard drive in the slot it says CD rom drive again and doesn't work.

How would I get these sata drivers?

Thanks for the help.
