Help me pick decide on a budget gaming laptop

Hello, i'm getting a new laptop for christmas. I've narrowed it down to two laptops. I'm a sophomore now and would like it to last atleast a year or two into my college career, though i don't plan on gaming on it for that long. As far as gaming goes, i don't need the highest end products or anything of that nature, and i won't be playing crazy graphic intensive games at the highest settings. i just wanna be able to play simple FPS shooters like combat arms, CoD(not exactly sure which one i wanna get, probably modern warfare 1), Team Fortress 2, CS: Source, and maybe some other games of that nature. Again, i don't need perfect high def graphics, just smooth gaming that still looks good. Now, onto the laptops:

First i've found a nice deal on a refurbished gateway p-7805u. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_3071wt_939

next, i've also found a nice deal on a refurbished asus G51vx-RX05. http://cgi.ebay.com/Asus-G51VX-RX05-...ht_3236wt_1069

and i WILL be using BING CASHBACK on either of these, and yes, they do both apply.
okay, to the comparison.

I really like the big screen for gaming on the gateway, and also the higher res, but i know that big laptop might be a hassle when i move away from gaming(laptop portability isnt that big of a deal now, but later it will be). the gateway is pretty heavy, at like 9 pounds, while im pretty sure the asus comes out at like 7.3. I like the looks of the gateway a good bit more than the asus, but looks can be brushed aside for now. the gateway has faster ram, faster processor, and better overall specs, apart from the graphics card. the asus beats the gateway out with the nvidia gtx 260m, while the gateway has the nvidia geforce 9800m GTS. i understand that the 260m is better, but how much better. for the type of gaming that i'm gonna be doing, will it really be all that noticeable? i don't plan on playing chrysis or anything... let's see... i like the keyboard on the asus more than i do the gateway, as it looks to be more sturdy, and it also lights up . that gateway comes with a 3 year extended warranty(with a company called CPS, and i realize that this might not be a huge and reputable company, but i've read a few reviews and they seem to be a decent company. and 3 years with a bad company is better than 0 years with a good company), while the asus just comes with the standard 90day warranty. i trust the seller of the asus more than i do the gateway, but i won't let that hold me back from buying from either. i like the price of the asus (after cashback) which comes out to like $736, while the gateway comes out to like $772 or something. i also won't let that small price sway my decision. i've also heard that the asus has some overheating problems? keep in mind i'm not afraid to open the thing up and do some modifications to aid the cooling process..

sorry for the wall of text, but i need advice.

What can I tell you. I own and use both ASUS and Gateway - they are both solid performers. But in this case the ASUS does have a slight advantage over the Gateway, other than the warranty and the large screen (my fav).

Still personally I would go with the Gateway in this case due to the warranty.

cheers ...

yeah, the warranty is really drawing me in. there's just so many trade offs with either one. i guess i really need to decide what i'm willing to sacrifice...

any other opinions?

Warranty is nice as you have already expressed the desire to keep for extended amount of time. That said both have pluses and which ever you do choose should do well for you. Good luck deciding.

anyone else?

Because you ask. I am going to say the Gateway. You don't need the most advanced GPU, you say. The warranty is better. The community is much larger for the FX than the Asus. That means ideas and solutions are more readily available.

To be honest what makes me hesitate most is the Gateway is 17"? I think that might surprise some? If the 17" made sense for me not even a question for me. I do not think the 17" is as big of concern for you. So? Gateway! But still just opinion either would be very good.

Sure I love my 17" Gateway P-7811FX

If you go with it, don't forget to check out the Gateway Section for the latest BIOS (9C.17.00) update of these P-78xx series.

cheers ...
