... and so quick is the $$$ out of your pocket

One word about SSDs, don't (ever) defrag them and they work well under W7.

cheers ...

im going to buy them tomorrow night!

please help with one more issue .. what are the benefits of using 60gb ssd for OS and programs only instead of using a 256 gb ssd ?

does a smaller ssd perform better and quicker than a larger!
i am talking about the ssd that will store only OS and system programs
post #26 of 47
SSDs by default are like flash drive - quick and powerful.

Whilst many prefer separating OS and data into 2 partitions, I personally leave everything in one! Just create a special folder for personal data and back it up often and you are set, no headache, no monkey around. Personal preference, as one says

I am confused , between vertex ex 60gb and vertex turbo 120gb...

the 60 extreme costs more than the turbo and is smaller! but the turbo has overclocked memory and higher specs i can' understand why the ex 60gb is more expensive? Is it better than the turbo?
From what I read the Turbo is newer and better than the EX model. Not sure about the price difference, have you tried some different selling sources?

whatever selling resource i see , i notice higher price for ex model and take in concern that the ex model is not only more expensive it is half the capacity of the turbo , too!

This is frustrating!
It is very difficult to choose between ferrari and mclaren mercedes . They are both super-ssd's but who's the best?? :P

well i think i found a clue...

the more expensive disk is SLC type, the other is MLC type!
do we know anything about it?

An slc SSD, such as the Memoright 128 GB SSD, is simply built where 1 bit rests within 1 cell of the SSD. Conversely, a mlc SSD means there are two bits within 1 cell of the SSD. The best way of understanding this is to compare a cell with a single bit to a single home whereas a cell with two bits would be a duplex. For those capable of using the slc SSD to its full potential, it is easily understood that they have much more control over the total SSD as each bit is within it’s own cell. Its much the same as trying to make alterations on your single family home, vice a duplex.

Where we need to pay attention, however, is with failure of the SSD as it occurs at the cell level. In a duplex, both sides are lost by fire vice only the one with a regular home. This is much the same as losing both bits in a mlc, vice the single bit of the slc. This directly affects the lifespan of the mlc compared to the slc which will be covered ‘in just a bit’.

Suffice it to say, we can form a basic understanding that the slc SSD, as with the Memoright 128Gb design, is much better than the mlc SSD.

DONE
i will post fotos of ssd's on my laptop later!

Other than making sure that you turn the "automatic" defrag from within Vista, I would leave everything else standard on the new cool drive that you just invest

Pics ... very nice. Run some benchmarks on it with some game or WEI and share with us the results.

Add (personal) note regarding SLC and MLC. One must take in consideration that this explanation is at when SSD started to come out in the market. Competitors were fierce in this aspect.

I cannot see the difference of so called MLC /SLC in today's SSDs, the same as I fail to see many times the difference between a "brand name" RAM vs "generic" one.

Again, this is a personal observation.

I see your point,
truth is slc is the only reason i purchased vertex ex

well, os disk vertex ex works like a charm!

in the opposite side corsair x256 is not recognised on my computer!
but on the device device manager it seems alright and updated!

any help?

vertex ex position 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)
corsair position 0 (Channel 1, Target 0, Lun 0)

Is it being recognized within BIOS?
