.. faster, but Web Standards still being questionable ..

But ...

"It's no secret that many tests show Internet Explorer is much slower in loading pages, particularly those that use javascript. However, it was still surprising to see the firm's Steven Sinofsky openly admit that gap, with his presentation even noting one test which showed Internet Explorer achieving just 50% of the speed of some rivals"

and ...

"..it appears clear that Internet Explorer 9 will do a better job of meeting standards than its predecessor. On one ranking which scores browsers out of 100 on a range of standards, IE9 received a 32, compared with just 24 for IE8. However, that's far short of the main challenger to Internet Explorer, Mozilla's Firefox, which scored a 92 in its latest beta edition."

Microsoft does just not make the grade as far as I am concerned !
I am fed up with them, and their help forums and all that stuff, which are never up to date,
same thing when checking for solutions, they never have any solutions !!! and if they do,well the solution will mess up something else. They are way behind

My bank will not work with some of those others. FireFox will not work for me here.
I have no choice but use the inferior browsers. I do all online banking. I have for as long as it has been offered.
It is totally secure. I get a transaction number which is the same as a check number.
I need anything newer that will help.

Thanks, Qhn!

Well, I can understand that. I am still staying with IE8 but I do not understand why they are so far behind the others..........But still........that's the way it is I suppose. Here's hoping they catch up a bit with IE9. They are supposed to be professionals after all said and done...We shall see !

We are stuck with whatever will work. Banking is very important here. I view most everything else based on that.

IE 9 Beta has been made available. Installation and updates requires system restart, make sure that the power is on external source if you are using notebooks.

My first impression so far:

- Nice and simple UI, but need some getting used to for previous IE users
- a new "Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks* (on/off switch require IE restart)" in the advanced options.
- The ONeBox Navigation is simple, intuitive and quick.
- video streaming is fluid, clear.

It is still rough, but for a beta browser, Microsoft has made it in my books. More testing to follow.

Side (important) note:

- it is recommended that users download Adobe Square (1) in conjunction with IE 9 Beta.

Follow instruction (and download) here for removing previous Adobe Flash before installing Square.

Well I will let everyone else test the Beta Version (as usual). Like that I can avoid all the pitfalls! ) especially as I have a lot of work to do on the comp. these days, so I do not want to start having to deal with any possible problems!

I have been running it for hours now and quite impressed with it. Will run some more on the 32bits machines (at work) tomorrow.

If you are one that visit game sites often, forget about this version for a while yet None of the videos would come up.

Certain sites require a prefetching time (kinda preload) before flying. No crash so far.

"New tab" and the drop down history navigation box is redundant, giving the same exact information.

qhn, additionally i've noticed that it has a tendency to have "spontaneous dead link syndrome", you click on a link to watch a youtube video, and it just seems to throw its hands up and not want to open the link. While it is a MASSIVE improvement over IE8 in terms of speed and lightweight GUI, it has a ways to go before it can be considered refined enough for day to day use.

Youtube link issue was being expected, more to do with the original site transporting the communication. But if you go to Youtube direct, everything works smoothly and quick.

I am sure the Microsoft is working diligently on everything that is being fed back. They have 6 months before the final version

Internet Explorer 9 RC up and running

For the pioneering users download can be had here

My personal observation of the installation:

- just ignore the "still opened programs", you must restart the system regardless at the end nyway.
. no need to un-install previous version of IE, it is actually an in-place upgrade.

Perfromance:
. Quick
. more testing and playing to come

^^Well, not so sure yet. But it seems that it gets slower as it goes along, then quick again - a bit jerky on some page refresh
