Is it a good idea to buy a netbook

Hey guys, I am considering buying a netbook, because I just want to browse the internet, chat online, edit .doc and .xsl files, watch videos and finally sometimes may use photoshop.

So do you think it's a good idea to buy a netbook (intel atom 280, 1G memory, 160G hard drive, 12'), NOT a note book.

If you can find a net-book with an optical drive for watching movie dvds, then why not.

But for photoshop ... Are you sure? We are talking about a media application that is slated for powerful graphic machines and large screen here

I doubt that you can get a netbook with a built-in optical drive due to its form and portability.

The current netbooks that use nVidia Ion are, according to nVidia:

. ASUS Eee PC™ 1201N
. HP® Mini 311
. Lenovo IdeaPad S12
. Samsung N510

Alright, I do not need any CD drive as netbooks support USB boot up, so it is noe neccesarry.

I found that asus, acer, samsung and hp netbooks are way much too expensive, you know, they cost $500, in that case I would rather buy a notebook.

Well I did see cheap netbooks at $250, but not branded ones, and most from China, many say it's not good and endurable.

So I am in a dilemma, I do not want a laptop, but I could not find CHEAP and reliable netbooks either.

Take a look at the Black Friday thread in the News Section. There are many netbooks on sale at the moment.

Yes they are good for most of your needs. The main one that concerns me is Photoshop. Not that it cannot do but it will take more time than some like. So you decide. On optical drive? As long as you accept external not an issue?

They are inexpensive is that the draw? Mobility? Netbooks do offer both. As a tool they are a worthwhile choice. They are what they are.

They even tempt me!

I know this has already been mentioned but I love my Asus 1000HE. It's the perfect netbook.
