Hello all!
Here's what i've got.. Owner had this laptop for only a few months and he said it died while he was using it. He had it checked at a local repair shop and he was told that the problem was with the motherboard and needs to be replaced.
I had the honor of verifying the matter. The laptop indeed wouldn't power on even with the adapter plugged in. Did some checks and I noticed that everytime I plugged in the adapter to the laptop, the adapter lost its output voltage.
I had to unplug the adapter from the AC and plug it back in after a few seconds for it to have an output voltage. Defective adapter perhaps? I could also hear a "spark" everytime I connected the adapter (when it had an output voltage) to the laptop. I recon that there may be a short circuit somewhere in the laptop that caused the adapter to lose its output voltage when I plugged it in.. So I took apart the laptop (thanks to a guide I also found in this forum
) and I checked the jack for continuity and the motherboard for some visible "burns" but I didn't seem to find any problem.
Did other tests and I finally got it to work only when I plugged in the adapter to the laptop without the battery. Strange thing is, it charged the battery when I attached it back to the laptop with the adapter already connected. I was able to boot but had to restore to factory settings since the installation got corrupted..
You may say that the problem is solved, but no.. Everytime I unplug the adapter even for a second and plug it back in, the dc-in LED doesn't light up. I had to shut down the system, remove the battery, plug in the adapter (after unplugging it from the AC and plugging it back in to restore its output power), and attach the battery, before the dc-in LED lights up and starts to charge the battery again.
Where could the problem really be? Is it in the motherboard power system? The adapter? Or maybe even with the battery? I couldn't test by replacing the adapter or the battery since I don't know anybody near who has a Toshiba with the same model.
Any thought on this appreciated..
Thanks in advance!
