From what I have seen, it is an issue for some people with the 190.38's. The only "fix" is to use other drivers. You can try Tony's betas of 195.39 HERE. Those drivers have their fair share of problems, too -- plus they seem to be an image quality driver at the cost of erratic framerates (though they run cooler temps than other 19x.xx drivers for me). There's also the TweakForce 190.62's HERE -- which ran well enough, but the image quality is not so great.

Both of which you can try, if you want somewhat recent modded drivers.

Oh i guess his macbook got lucky
im going to test out the other drivers u mentioned starting with http://www.tweakforce.com/modules.ph...asc&highlight=
ill report back with the results

so i tested it and i seem to receive less fps lag but still some fps spikes ranging from a few seconds to a min
like it goes down to around 20 (max fps is 32 which im usually getting
also ive been getting fps lag as low as 15 when im in a smoke bomb (happened in all 1.5 years ive been owning this laptop)
also my nvidia control panel is back

any fix for my fps spikes?

That's just how it goes, unfortunately. Smoke is always a huge framerate killer, and so are other effects like fire (though not as bad). Some things you can do to help framerate are:

1. Turn off any unnecessary Windows services (I use Black Viper's "Safe" Vista reg file HERE). If you still use XP SP3 32-bit, you can get that reg file HERE. Basically, just download the corresponding reg file, then Merge it with the registry, and restart.

2. Quit any unneeded background processes.

3. Make sure there are no defrags or antivirus sweeps going on while gaming.

4. Reduce image quality with RivaTuner (e.g.; increase the mipmap LOD bias into the positive range, enable all the optimizations, lower the Intelllisample setting, turn of V-Sync, up the Prerender limit -- which will cause more mouse lag while increasing framerate, etc.

5. Overclock your video card and/or CPU.

6. Defrag your hard drive.

7. Lower in-game quality settings.

That's about all you can do.

I dont see a customize button beside ForceWare Detected
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...ith-rivatuner/

Also is it worth upgrading from vista sp1 to sp2?

It should be blinking until you use it the first time. Did you let it install/update the driver (.drv file)? Rivatuner crashes with 195.39, since for some reason one of the libraries were made static instead of dynamic like in all other drivers.

And of COURSE it is "worth it" to update your OS... With the extra security and optimizations a Service Pack provides, it is pretty much a given that you should update... Plus, things like indexing and copying files were much faster on my computer with SP2 than SP1. The difference isn't as great as original Vista to SP1, but it is worth it.
