Office 2007 apps (except Outlook) Hang w/ PCMCIA Wifi

Very wierd situation here.

Using PCMCIA WiFI Card.

Word, PP, and Excel (all 2007) work fine with documents that were opened prior to the PCMCIA card being used/turned on (not just insterted in PCMCIA slot), regardless if I'm using the app which came with the WiFi drivers, or if I use WinXP Network Modem Connection.

If I try to open a new or existing Word, PP, or Excel doc which wasn't already open at the time the PCMCIA card is turned on (not just insterted in to PCMCIA slot), the app(s) hangs untill I disconnect the Network Connection (no need to remove the card). I can still navigate through the previously opened docs, and save them, but the app(s) itself/themselves, do not close (at all). Other apps like Adobe 7.1, Outlook 2007 work fine. Also noticed at this point drivers will not update/install, if mouse if removed the usb port remains disabled, all until the network connection is closed.

Once the network connection is disconnected, the app(s) return to normal, yet I have the following symptoms untill I reboot: USB Port is disabled, cannot get the wifi card to start.

I've debugged the Enhanced USB 2.0 Host Controller and the PCI to USB Controller drivers without resolution to above issue

Laptop is Dell D620 w/ WinXP SP2.

I'm the only one of many using the combo with the issue, and we are all using the same drivers (with perhaps the exception of the Vid driver).

I've stripped-off unnecessary apps, disable Office COMS and Add-ins, all to no avail.

Does it make any differences if you just click on a Word document per example to open it, instead of starting up Office first?

Have you tried XP's SP3 yet? We are using SP3 at work on our D620/630's and a few issues have been straightened out.

Thanks for the replies (so far), appreciated.

Actually, selecting the doc itself (and not starting Office), is what I've been doing. The wired thing is that 1 out of 50 trys actually opens the doc fine, although I likely can't successfully close it. Even with docs previously opened (before starting the 3G modem), they sometimes don't close until the modem is shut-down.

XP SP3, wish I could. It's not supported on the help desk.

It's likely got to be a resource conflict with the PCI to USB conroller. The PCMCIA card itself has drivers no newer the Oct. 2007. Believe me, I've tried to find newer, and even alternatives drivers.

I wonder if there is setting somewhere that causes your Office from accessing the net when opened and is having issue with the PCMCIA connection.

cheers ...
