M17x BIOS Bug ???

I think i have found a little bug in the BIOS

I disabled adaptor warnings in the BIOS and instead of not telling me the adaptor was not connected evry boot up I was warned that my adaptor was not connected, even though it was.

if I pressed F1 it booted into the OS and both my GTX 280 cards were online

If I pressed F2 - into BIOS it said a 240 watt adaptor was connected

but no matter what I always got the warning that it was not connected on boot up.

anyone else notice this?

Cheers

not that I have seen

Well what should scare you is that Alienware invalidates your warranty if you install a BIOS upate on your own. That's just idiotic in this day and age. If any mobo vendor tried that they'd be ridiculed into oblivion. Policies like that should not exist with a notebook of this cost level.

Luckily they are owned by Dell and Dell does not void your warranty when flashing with an approved BIOS.

Are we sure about this yet? Alienware is still pretty much having its own crazy team in the (Dell) house here.

Yes. I've talked to them about this. They wouldn't make it publicly available if it voided your warranty.

Also Dell puts the updated BIOS files on Driver download site.

I also discovered that enabling ASPM (Active State Power management) causes the laptop to lockup in Windows everytime I run on Battery Power

... the quirkiness' list is getting longer ....

No system will ever be perfect.

Right, but ... a brand new system model? They better make available some sort of fixes pretty fast here.

Actually you usually see a few BIOS upgrades in the initial start of the lofe cycle of a computer as the bugs come to the surface
