Touchpad Not Working

Thread Starter
Have an Area 51 7700 purchased new about 5 1/2 years old. Runs perfectly, does not overheat thanks to Get Thermal, Arctic Silver and cleaning the dust out on a regular basis.

My touchpad no longer works. The left and right buttons do work but the pad itself no longer moves the pointer. I re-installed the drivers but no change. It's not really a big deal as I use a mouse but I would like the touchpad to work.

Any ideas? Is this a common failure of the hardware itself? If it is the pad itself, how difficult is it to swap out? I have never taken this computer apart except for changing the LCD screen a while back.

Thanks

you should be able to replace the palm rest which includes the touch pad.

if you have not opened the laptop recently it would be my guess it has crapped out.

But checking the ribbom cable would not hurt
