Bitlocker - Enable or Not ?

Please tell me about any pros or cons of enabling the Bitlocker function. I want to have all of the security possible but I am concerned about accidentally locking myself out.

That and when the drive takes a dump ... I stay off these encryption tool. Too much for a personal usage stand point.
