Trying to hook camera to laptop

I have a Canon Powershot G5 and I am trying to connect this to my Sony Laptop.

The camera uses a 3.5mm AV cable but I am unsure where to plug into the laptop. In the yellow female port on the back? And I do not know what cable to use. I cannot find a male to male Audio Visual cable.

Can someone help me?

The MODEL Number is PCG-GRV550.

Have you tried connecting the Canon via USB port?

I did not know if that would work so I did not look for a cable like that. Are you saying that is the way to go?

I want to use the laptop as a substitute for the camera's LCD screen to focus the image during a macro (very close up) shot.

That tiny LCD screen on the camera does not give me enough resolution to focus.

You should have an USB port on the Canon (middle port) and can use this cable to connect with the Sony. Then you can access the pics and video clips.

This might be tricky. I know that Canon does offer some sort of remote software allowing PC/notebook to be used as a "removable" LCD, but I am not sure if that is pertaining to your model. Might take this up direct with Canon support themselves.

The middle port on the camera seems to only download images to the laptop. There is a function to take a picture but it does not show the image before activating the camera shutter.

A good try though.
