Looking forward to your review

And Congrats
Congrats.

Interesting with the I7 the mem controller is onboard, yet Dell still managed to get a machine capable of 16gb memory. Must mean the chips can go that high, which isn't in any of the Intel docs...

Curious isn't it?

That would possibly mean when the memory becomes available for 2x8gb sticks, that you might be able to run it on I7 notebooks. Might...

Yes will do! As soon as i have the monster with me, will post pics, and tell you all about how things are in detail. But you guys need to wait for 2 weeks before i can do that- it takes that much time for them to deliver it to me at india.
With regard to the HDMI port- even if we could use a VGA-HDMI adapter, the quality still will be VGA, isn't?? I guess they have a dock with a HDMI port- is that so? Ok, i dont know these 'cause the dell india website still does not have the M6500 listed.

if it is the same Dock as the M6400 then yes it will have a HDMI port on it.

according to cpu-z, i7-m has been showing some funky things, one of which is the ability to have 4 onboard ram slots. I wonder what cpu-z says your m6500 has in re: ram slots... my guess is either 4 or 8.
Another curious thing is the lack of Quadro SLI in the mobile arena. It's been available on the desktop for years of course. Would be kind of scary to see dual 3800m's, but of course the power would be too high. More likely you'd see dual 3700/2700 combo's. Anyway, I'd suspect that will come in a generation or two.

The 6400 currently has 4 slots so my guess is for the same 4 slots supporting up to 4gig in each giving you the total of 16gig ram. This makes it very affordable to hit 8gig ram as the 4 gig chips are still expensive at around $300US per chip

I love the 6400 - is my gaming rig, currently playing call of modern warfare 2 @ 1900x1200 and getting slaughtered by 16 year old kids.
Yeah I like the 6400 form factor far better than the M17x, but... well you have to admit that SLI 280's is a pretty nice plus.

But my 6400 has been a picture of stability and speed and I really do love it. Can't wait to see reviews of the 6500. And the docking station is a nice plus as well.

Isn't Engineering the entire reason for these?

Not 'business' (don't need this to run powerpoint and excel).
Not entirely.

Because anyone that is doing engineering is going to have a network of workstations. I mean loading huge assemblys does take massive amounts of ram and cpu power, but in my opinion those people are not going to be loading assemblies on this PC.

I see the real market for this thing in two areas:

Engineering Sales:
The power to be at a customers facility demostrating engineering software with multiple applications running i.e Solid works, windows media, power point etc...

Graphic Professionals:
Mobile Photographers and Video Editing. Editing HD Video and Photo running, Photoshop, video editing software at the same time.

In both of these fields mobile reliablity and and performance are crucial. Which is why the price in most of these cases doesnt matter in comparison to the cost of a failure at a customers facility.

I agree that its pretty handy for graphics professionals, especially given the increased use of OpenGL to accelerate 2D imaging tasks.
