If they put twin 2800M's in the 6500, things would get scary. SLI has worked in the Quadro market for years.

OK, I have the M6500 (for a few days now) but I can't quite get the Dell 3007WFP to work with it. The screen displays correctly for a couple of seconds at a time, but flashes on and off continually, and occasionally loses sync altogether. The screen has no adjustments, except backlight intensity, and no other inputs so there's nowhere to go from that end. The screen is recognised correctly through the adapter, either on the dock's displayport inputs or directly into the laptop's one.

There's a possibility some or all of the problem is down to the ATI M7740 card as the laptop screen flashes similarly for quite a while, whilst the screens are identifying. The firmware and drivers I think are up to date. Most likely it's the adapter though, which is incidentally just a Bizlink rebadged as Sapphire - they didn't even bother to take the Bizlink stickers off; it's the Bizlink BZL-KS10008(B). It should be firmware upgradeable, but I can't find firmware for it although the ATI compatibility list has the firmware at 1.01 (and the identical Accell product - they're all the same thing). It's almost there, but so frustratingly unusable. One of the justifications for spending so much on the laptop was as a desktop replacement - if it can't drive the 30" display, it's no desktop replacement for me.

Did you get the external monitor working meantime? If so, how?

Chalks another one up to the tree of ATI chip issues.

Hope you can manage to hack up a solution (bios and so forth) because I believe that GPU should drive a 30 with no problem.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you current owners can give me specs on the actual display in the M6500. I'm looking to upgrade from my E1705 that has the LG Phillips 17" 1920x1200 S-IPS screen in it. From what I have read on review sites, they are stating that the RGBLED screen is a TN panel. Not sure if this is true, or just uninformed opinions. Most review sites said the same about my current screen back when I bought it.

I have also read that the non LED screen is a glossy screen, just like my current screen (which I would prefer). So is it the same LG screen that I have currently?? This is something that I would also prefer over the matte screen. Also are all the LED backlit screens matte??

Sorry to be a pain, I've searched high and low to try and find some solid information on what specific screens are being put into the M6500 and have yet to come up with anything.

Thanks for any help.

hi nem - to put it simply it won't work, I have swapped screens between a M6400 & E1750 - the Bios in the E1710 will not recognise the RGBLED screen and it won't work.

I swapped the 1900x1200 display from the E1705 for the original M6400 1400 x 900 (from memory that was the res) and while the display would work in the E1705 the brightness controls would not (fixed at around 80% brightness) After checking with Dell they confirmed the bios needs to be able to recognise the display and as this display is "new" the dell E1705 does not recognise it and it will not work correctly.

I am now running the REGLED display in the M6400 and it is beautiful.

Hey philby, I'm afraid I wasn't very clear in my post. I am looking to upgrade from my E1705 laptop to the M6500 laptop, not just my screen. I'm trying to find out what are the actual specs of the screens are that they offer for it. Ie, TN panel made by LG....

right now the RGBLED screens are either Samasung, or LG.

Thanks Dave. I spent a large part of the day searching some more and came to the same conclusion. I also discovered that LG is revamping there entire site, and they took the old one down. The one that had all the specs on the LCD panels they manufactured. Samsung is also very mysterious about what the panel is as well. They only list standard specs, and not the panel type. Although the part number would suggest a TN. Still I'd like to know this for sure.

Is it possible that a Dell rep would have this information?

the LG panel are only recent, Samsung has been the one used the most on the Dell line anyways.

I bought my first one on Ebay for my first M6400.

Since I own an m6500 (with an LG screen, btw), I thought I would chime in here for future reference Great machine, hey?
