windows 7 32bit vs 64bit question with 8gb ram

Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?

i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.

Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?

A thing is you can now use xp mode on windows 7 with virtualization so software compatiblity would not affect my decision.

64Bits is the way to go now, in performance and apps compatibility. Took Microsoft a while to get on the band wagon and throw its weight behind the 64Bits environment, but it has made it.

cheers ...

Windows 7 x64 bit is the way to go

I have had no issues with it, and your laptop supports it as you already know.

Win 7 has fixed most if not all the x64 bit issues that XP and Vista had.

If you have 8GB make use of it. I don't think it is necessary but to not use what you can seems silly.

Agreed, 64 bit, even on a 4gb machine is quite useable now. The days of incompatibilities are quickly sliding into history. I won't say there aren't a couple issues that crop up, but most are avoidable by choosing purchases with some knowledge, or overcome with some workarounds. I've had zero major issues on a 4 year old notebook upgraded to Win 7 64.
