ROGUE SECURITY SOFTWARE

I downloaded a codec which installed ROGUE PERSONAL SECURITY on my comp. I went into services and deactivated it, but cannot uninstall it from Programs and Features.
Would welcome any advice as to how to uninstall this fake security. Thanks in advance !

Use brute force to remove it:

. manually deleting the folders and files belonging to this rogue

. manually deleting the entries in Start Menu, Add/Remove programs

. run cCleaner to clean the broken registry entries

. might have to repeat the above steps a few times.

(and moving to Software General)

cheers ...

qhn - Thanks, but I don't think there has been any harm done. Have run a scan, and McAfee Virtual Technician and everything seems to be ok. Went to C Drive and deleted it from Programs, and anywhere else it showed up. Just cannot uninstall from Programs and Features. Don't know whether to leave it there or what. I didn't actually activate the program, but deleted it from Services and as said anywhere else it was showing up, like in the notification area. I know if I try to uninstall from Programs and Features again, it will stick two icons up in the notification area.

Just delete the entries in the Programs and Features, and run cCleaner to clean out the broken registry entries. I do that all the time with entries that are left behind from some bad installations.

OK I managed to uninstall it. Ran CCleaner, there were no issues to fix, so everything seems to be fine.........luckily. ;-) Thanks again
