Will this notebook play games?

Hi. A friend of mine asked me to help him figure out if his notebook will play games, more specifically Modern Warfare 2. I looked at his video card, and for benchmarks, I've seen a mixed result. His system is:

  • Windows XP
  • 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo T7500
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Will his computer play Modern Warfare 2 fluently on any settings?

Low resolution and low settings it should run okay. The engine is pretty good about scaling.

We may have some benchmarks in our database with the 8600M GT so you can get a sense of how many FPS you'd be getting.

I agree with Darq I couldnt believe how well the first COD4/MW ran on my Gateway rig (see sig). I would say an 8600GT should fair well on Medium settings, but check the benchmarks just to be safe.

I can play COD4 demo on high, acceptable frames for me, avg low 30's. If your friend has a 512MB card a little below my card if 256MB card a little above mine. I run at 1024x768.

It should run fairly well on Low setting. I dont know it NFS Shift is in the same Category as MW2 in terms of Graphics, but i managed to play NFS Shift on medium settings without much problems.
