Acer laptop quality?

How good are acer laptops? Staples has a 17in dual core laptop for $480. How much faster is core 2 duo over dual core?

Acer is being number 2 at the moment and for good reasons (quality and support - if there are such things )

The difference between dual core and Core 2 Duo? full 64bits and "cooler" in the Core 2 Duo. Other than that, bah. I think.

So core 2 duo is better for win7 since its 64 bit...right? Acer is number 2.. who is number 1? I didn't know acer was that popular.

HP = #1; and yes Acer is numero 2 in both notebooks and PCs.

Yes Acer has come a long way. There quality is certainly adequate and they offer great value. Could you link the unit you are looking at? Pentium Dual core are 64bit. They are Core 2 architecture, They are Core 2's with some L2 cache disabled. They are not 32bit Core Duo's, no way they are still selling Core Duo's. Cache is tricky to tell how much it affects performance. On some applications it makes zero difference on others depending on what amounts you are talking? Less than 15% at the same clocks. Generally to be noticeable short of a stop watch 15% to 20% is where it just starts to get noticeable.

Have a look at these comparisons.





The PDC is a 64bit and is C2D w/reduced L2. So don't stress it.

Yea that is PDC and the cost is good. It would be a fine purchase at that price point.
