My 9100 and my gf's 8600

Thread Starter
Well, I have had my 9100 for about a month, she's had her 8600 for 5 hours.

Her laptop is a Pentium M 1.4ghz i8600 with a WSGXA+ display, DVD+RW, Intel wireless card, 30 gig HD, 256MB RAM, nvidia graphics card with 64MB VRAM.

Mine is an i9100 with 2.8ghz Pentium 4 w/HT, 512MB RAM, 15.4" WSXGA+, DVD+RW, 40 gig HD, ATI Radeon 9700 w/ 64 MB VRAM.

I am really impressed with her 8600, and I am extremely jealous of the battery life and weight of the computer. The notebook weighs MUCH less than it looks like it should. At first though, I was concerned the computer seemed a bit slow, but after some looking, it was set to run at 560mhz due to the power setting. We cranked it up to the max performance and it runs very quickly at 1.4GHZ. Also, I have not looked up her service tag yet, but I think she has a Hitachi screen. I notice some light leakage from the bottom when the screen is black, but honestly it is not as bad as I thought it would be if she ended up with a Hitachi. I will mention it to her tomorrow when I help her install the rest of her programs, but I honestly doubt she will care enough to send it back. When I look at it, it doesn't seem too bad, but obviously it was bad enough that it caught my eye.

Overall though, very impressed with her 8600. My 9100 seems to get up and running significantly faster, and is ready to work much faster than her PC, but I think it's partly due to all the Dell junk loaded on her 8600. I am not going to mess with formatting her computer though, as she is not a gamer or a performance freak.

Anyway, I brought my 9100 over to her place so we could transfer some files and take some pics with her 8600. She's really happy with it and I am impressed with the 8600 as well. These pics should be a good size comparison as well for potential buyers.

Still gotta say I'd rather have my 9100 though.

Nice pics! And my god, it is true.... when that screen is open the i9100 is twice as high as the i8600.... I can tell you I'm really happy with my choice now

So I8600 has become a lady's box? Well, size does matter (just ask your girlfriend).

We just turned the Dell Quickset up to Maximum Performance and that changed it.

Just remember that you will only be able to see your specs doing that if you are a North American customer

Great post The ArchAngel great chance to contrast the size difference between the two systems especially for someone like me unsure of which one to go for.

well if u go to the power mag u can change it there to anything else if u dont want to use QuickSet. always on should do the trick. this is what i use.

But damn now i know where to send people that have a problem between the two. DAMN now more then ever i would never ever look at any XPS/I9100. Damn there big. it looks like a I8600 on a Port replicator. LOL but is big as F*&^. Nice pics i saved them.

Glad I could help.

Well I would choose 9100 coz of it's 3.2/3.4GHz. 8600 it's only 1.7/1.8GHz ? It's not very slower than 9100 ?

is not slower at all MHZ dont matter people have to understand that.
