New 7900gtx, what to O/C with?

I recently bought a 7900gtx and a new power brick when my 7900gs crapped out in my e1705. My question:

Can I use the same version of the nvflash iso disc that i previously burned to overclock my new 7900gtx? If so do i use the clocks with the "V" in the code?

...or is there a different iso i need to burn for the 7900gtx?

thanks!

You really don't need to overclock the card. It won't give you much more performance as its factory overclocked in the first place. You have to be careful when flashing these things. That being said, you have to be careful when flashing your video card with roms you find on the net. There are two different versions of the 7900 GTX and you need to make sure the rom you flash is not the incorrect version. However, nvflash will prevent you from flashing the wrong version as long as you dont use the force flashing switches (-4 -5 -6). Anyway, I'll talk more about this later.

I used 185.85 forceware, and downloaded rivatuner and overclocked it to 550/720, and it still seems to be having trouble playing cod4...etc. Running around 40-50 fps on lower screen settings.

any input guys? thanks

I'm not saying that your card can run any game. I'm just saying that OC'ing it won't result in too much more performance. I OC all my cards however. You're probably better off tuning the settings in CoD4 to allow higher fps. Its been awhile since I've played the CoD series so I don't remember most of the settings that help with fps. You should check out some cod4 or gaming forums to see what settings you can change.

I realized I didn't really answer your question before. So here's a better response. For flashing, you can look here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/top...bile-gpu-roms/ . Bear in mind these flashes are to unlock the card for software OC'ing. This is a bit different than hardwired OC'ing directly in the rom (which is what you were doing with the 7900 GS). Anyway, you may be able to use the old disc you have to flash your 7900 GTX. It all depends on if your 7900 GTX is rev0 or rev1 though. It sounds like you're software OC'ing already so all of this info is probably irrelevant.

Your core can probably be OC'ed anywhere from 575 to 600. Your memory can probably be OC'ed anywhere from 750 to 850.

It just seems that the software overclocking isn't doing as good as it should. My 7900gs performed better at lower clock speeds (450) than this one does at say 550.

My card is: PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0299&SUBSYS_019B1028&REV_A1\4&1C9EC085&0&0008

I suppose this is a rev1? will this work with my old disc?

Wow, so i plug my original 90w in today just to see how differently it would run and its night and day. I got some ebay pos 130w power supply and my lappy isn't recognizing it.

....now where to get a cheap OE Dell 130w battery..
