M17x acting really strangely.. help!

I've had this laptop for about a month now, and some little things are really starting to bug me.

Literally every other time it boots up, some programs will not work. I use Steam a lot, and use/work with a lot of Flash content.. Steam won't load up at all, Flash content and similar effects run very slowly.. almost like the discrete graphics aren't on, but I have the SLI icon in my taskbar. If I shut down and boot it back up, it's fine. Then I shut it down, and on next boot up it's back to its trickery.

Please someone help with this, I have no idea what this might be.

SPECS:
Intel Quad Q9000 @ 2.00GHz
4GB RAM @ 1333MHz
2x 1GB GeForce 260M SLI
500GB HDD
Win7 Pro

Thanks guys!

Grab your resource dvd and boot off of it. It will load up a diagnostics program. Run a scan of the whole system. It may take some time. My first guesses with the limited info I have I would say memory or hdd issue.

I had a issue similar to what your describing with just one program because it wasn't compatible with Windows 7.

Awesome, sounds like a good idea. I never thought of using it before, will definitely give it a try and let you know what happens.

Thanks!

I had the exact same problem, which was resolved by going into the BIOS and just disabling the onboard graphic chip.
Turns out that in my case, the m17x deciced to use the onboard chip instead of my ATI crossfire cards, even when the machine wasn't in stealth mode.

Hope that helps

Interesting! How might I go about doing this? I went into the BIOS and disabled both the stealth option and the hybrid graphics option, but this did not help.

I also had the same problem with mine that about every other boot it would go to the onboard graphics for some reason. I just went into the bios and disabled the onboard card. Haven't had that problem since.

booting off of battery can automatically change it
