Extensa 5420 lower case/power jack repair

Hi,

I'm working on an Extensa 5420 that has a broken plastic tab that holds the power jack in the lower case. Anyone had any luck with glue/epoxy (or some other techique) to secure the power jack in position so it won't fall inside the case? Or am I faced with trying to locate a lower case ass'y?

Any advice would be great!

Another case assembly would be on the safe side. But then ... take some pics and share, maybe some of us can come up with some wacko ideas to make it last.

Thanks for responding. Here are two pics. One shows the plastic tabs that hold the power jack in position. The second shows the power jack resting between the two tabs.

I'm thinking of filling the pocket behind and around the power jack with an epoxy-based material. I believe that J-B weld has a metallic content and would not be suitable for this purpose. Can you recommend a good non-metallic epoxy?

Thanks again for your help.

Epoxy it, along with some sort of brace to hold it to the casing. The jack takes a lot of pounding with all the plugging in actions.

Some non-metallic epoxy like this?

That 3M 2214 epoxy looks like just the ticket, although it's a bit pricey even in bulk (~$15 US per ounce.) The next challenge will be to find some place in northern California that sells those 2 ounce tubes.

Thanks again mate.

I wonder about that stuff they flog on TV Wonderputty or whatever it was called. You might have to paint in after but it is supposed to be very strong

I am having the same problem in which the power jack has come loose and slipped into the case.  How do you get the lower case off?  I have removed bottom screws but still cannot get the lower case to come off.  What else need to be done in order to remove the lower case to get to the power jack?

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Have you looked into NBF stickies in the section and see if you can see a service guide for your model?

cheers ...
