XPS M1530 & Windows 7

Hi,

According to Dell's website it is recommended that I NOT upgrade to Windows 7...which I don't understand AT ALL! My machine is only a year old, it's not outdated to run Windows 7 and has the recommended hardware that Micrsoft suggests.

Anyone else here who has this machine that can comment?

Thanks

Maybe that there is some special apps not yet being able to run under W7. Other than that why not upgrading if you want it? Maybe they want you to buy a newer upgrade version of the M1530

it runs just fine, I used the Beta and RC on mine (which did have some problems with the unit) in the past, and upgraded permanently to RTM about a week after retail release

64-bit edition, I had to install QuickSet I think from one of the Vostros I don't recall exaclty, and the 370 Bluetooth from the new Studio XPS 15 because the 64-bit Vista drivers disappeared from the website entirely between when I installed it originally and when I needed the bluetooth stack a couple days ago, but everything works and even MediaDirect works (I need it for bluray playback)

Where did you get Windows 7 drivers at then? Cause there is no 7 drivers for the hardware when I go to the download section on their site.

I'm running Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz)-is that a 64bit processor or 32bit? I guess my first thing is I need to determine do I run 32 or 64 bit version of the os?

I left it to Windows 7 to pick up my drivers when it finds them.

So windows 7 update picks up all the brand drivers for the hardware? I don't want to use generic drivers.

it is a 64 bit processor. the only drivers I really needed to install were the wireless drivers and the video drivers, wireless I installed the Vista 64-bit listed for the XPS (theyre missing from the site now) because there werent any generics for this card on the disc, and video drivers I installed the MobileForce. everything else had drivers, except i think I had to install the RaLink chipset too (also installed the 64-bit listed for the XPS at the time). everything else it can pull down from Windows Update just fine

and 64 bit is always what you want to run when you have the option

That sucks that dell refuses to post updates for the system, it just makes it more difficult to do this if I do it. They actually say you can update but they say to use vista drivers...why would I want to do that when I'm running 7? I just don't see the point in it.

for nearly all cases they will be using the same drivers regardless. only a couple things had the driver architecture change between Vista and 7 (Bluetooth stack, Biometric stack, and WDDM Video drivers are it as far as I'm aware)
