Dell XPS M1330: Volume Settings

Hi all --

This may not be a question that is specific to my particular notebook, or even to Dell but then again, it might be; I'm not sure.

Previously (that is, before I recently reinstalled Windows) my computer used to have some sort of "memory" for volume settings. I normally set the volume to around 20 when using headphones and set it to around 100 without headphones. My computer had a "memory" for this in the sense that whenever I plugged in headphones the volume would automatically set to 20 and when I unplugged them, it would go back up to 100. However, this no longer happens and I don't know why?

It seems likely to be an issue with my audio drivers but as far as I remember, upon reinstalling Windows I installed the same audio drivers as I did when I previously installed Windows. What else do you think could be the issue?

Thanks for your time!

Have you tried going into playback device and set each one accordingly when you are on headset or not? Just right clicking on the system tray sound icon and opening up Playback Devices.

cheers ...

thats kind of odd that it did that in the first place, actually. it keeps a different volume level for each of the different playback devices, but it considers Speakers/Headphones as just one device

maybe there was something else branching out of the SigmaTel app that detects when something is plugged into the jacks so you can set the right jacks

Maybe I wasn't clear. It doesn't make a distinction between speakers / headphones but it makes a distinction between plugged / unplugged. Since external speakers and headphones are both plugged, they're treated as the same but they are both treated as distinct from the computer's internal speakers (unplugged).
