New buyer:Extended or not extended warranty?

Thread Starter
After a horrible experience with Alienware, I'm looking at buying a Sager. I'm debating between PCTorque and Xoticpc - both of which have stellar ratings on resellerratings.com.

I do have a couple of questions for some of you who have purchased from these guys:

1) Is buying an extended warranty on Sager like buying one on a Toyota? (not necessary?) I know that if I pass, I'm going to have a hardware failure on day 366.

2) Do I go through PCTorque or XoticPC for the warranty and have them as my agent? or diect to Sager?

3) I'm out of Canada so should I assume that I will be paying for shipping to and from Sager/PCTorque/XoticPC?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

Notebook computers fail more often than most products. An extended warranty is usually a good idea.

I do not buy extended warranty myself. That said I think a wise investment. What model? High end cutting edge systems can have issues even well made ones like Clevo. Also I know more about Xotic than PCTourqe but as you have found both have good rep. Not sure what model you are getting but at Xotic some come with three year labor through Xotic as the base warranty. I think the first year you go through Sager but Xotic does and will help you if needed to expedite. I think after that you go through Xotic and they will get parts from Sager.

I think one of your upgrade options at Xotic would get complete care from Xotic. Being from Canada is a disadvantage as you pay shipping for warranty service. In US free.

I think I just read over there that the cost to ship one of the top of the line systems was like $102?

I am very biased for Xotic but only because I am more familiar with them. The Two Justin's and Joseph are very supportive of their clients. I am sure PCTorque is the same I just do not know them.

Hi Steve,

With respect to your first question, all of our warranties are serviced by Sager, whether standard or extended, accidental or not. Of course, we are always there to help and get involved should there be any unlikely issues.

As to your second question, because Sager (the same people who build and assemble your notebook) are doing the servicing, you would ship direct to them rather than waste time and money by shipping to PC Torque first. Again, we will always help with coordinating and logistics.

Finally, we oftentimes cover ground shipping (one way) for warranty repairs, EVEN IN CANADA. And don't worry, there are no additional taxes for the shipment of repair/replacement units.

Feel free to PM us if you have any other questions.

Agreed, but as long as it is not over 17% of the final price My own "is it worth it?" calculation.

For first time buyer - a definite "yes" :-)

cheers ...
