M4400 in disguise of E6500 ?

I need to make the outlook of the M4400 looks similar to E6500. Is the front cover of LCD exchangable between these 2 laptops?

Sounds stupid but I cannot let certain people know that I am having M4400.

Thank you.

They look similar ... Should be able to swap the lid out.

cheers ...

hmm, i know it is very rare for someone having 2 of these laptops for comparison, However I would be glad if there is a confirmed answer to this. maybe only a dell personnel can answer this

The M4400 will cost about USD 2600, the E6500 back LCD cover is only USD 30. But if the cover cannot match i am doomed

stealth M4400's, eh?

dont remember which one it is, but I do know the M4400 was identical in casing to one of the E series Latitudes. so if the E6500 is the one most like it that one must be it

Those are the ones I was looking at Measurements are exact to the millimeter, and the form as well. Funny that Dell did this on these models ...

cheers ...

ooh thank you. Actually there is another way to do it, but much more expensive:-

Buy E6500 with lowest spec mainboard, then ebay or dell the M4400 mainboard to replace it.

Since the LCD cover seems identical, i will go for earlier option. thx dudes.

ohh wait, is the bottom base colour the same between 2 models?

From what I have seen so far on the pics, they are pretty much identical (form-wise and color) to me ... just my eyes ..

cheers ...

The M4400 and E6500 are the exact same system, more or less. Parts are interchangable between the two just as they were with the M4300 and D830. The LCD Lid assembly will most definitely interchange with the E6500 and the bottom shell and other casing components are identical even in color.

I really hate the Corrugated tin look of the M4400.

Yea I joined this site just to comment on this thread. I ordered a Precision m4400 from the Dell outlet. The computer I received said "LATITUDE E6500" above the keyboard. I had them send me out a replacement palm rest cover thing and they sent a tech out to replace it. Took him a couple hours. But yea, the computers are identical except the lid.

lol slikdelalor, how nice if i can know your problem earlier and we can interchange the E6500 and M4400 wordings part. Now even after changing the LCD cover i still need to 'cover up' the Precision M4400 wordings with sticker or whatever.

Just received the new E6500 LCD cover and trying to play around. Encountered some obstacles, managed to overcome them but at the end....

1) LCD cable connector is not the same between M4400 and E6500. I overcome this by swapping the cable. This cable shares with camara & mic cable too.

2) The cover latch is not the same. It took me 1 hour but finally still manage to overcome this by doing some minor damages on E6500 side.

3) When I thought everything is done and ready to install the LCD panel, i am doomed... the cover size is not the same between them. omg... I donno how to overcome this now. The panel simply doesn't fit on the screw holes! (vertically). And the LCD frame cover will not fit either.

Well what I can think of now maybe buying the complete set of E6500 LCD and replace the M4400 one. But this will definitely more expensive, and the cover will be larger then the bottom by 6mm. I am not sure if the latch will fit either.

man that sucks, anyone know of a successful motherboard swap? or any combination that ends up with an e6400 lid and m4400 graphics? i would kill for workstation capabilities and that beautiful regatta blue lid all in one laptop.

or maybe one of the companies that do custom colors on laptops can make a m4400 lid blue, wont help make it covert but would considerably improve looks....

hopefully they will make some aesthetic improvements on the m4500 that comes out in March, supposedly....
