M9700 heat issue

Hello

I think my laptop M9700 Alienware is having a heat problem.

Every so often it just turns off hard. It can be turned back on straight away.

I've looked online and spoken to alienware - it appears it might be a heat problem, I have already replaced the GPU Fan, but not the CPU one (didn't have a spare available).

I've cleaned and applied silver thermal paste to the CPU and GPU.

It still turns off, to the point that it's corrupt windows now, and I can't even complete a repair or fresh install in windows XP installation.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need a new processor?

I believe it's a 2.4g X2 Turion AMD ML-44.

Thanks

Mat

You need to get it up and running then monitor temps. HWMonitor, Notebook Hardware Control and several others are free.

Hiya

Thanks for your reply.

Is there anything available that runs in DOS?

Hiya

Booted up in parted magic virtually. And the temp stuff is saying 70oC idle, and I can get it to 95oC if I run some CPU tests.

I stopped at that, as that is what the turion ml-44 runs to?

Any advice welcomed.

Thanks

Mat
