Will be getting 2 OCZ Vertex 256GB SSDs to replace the 500GB HD. That'll add about $1000. Will also replace the stock RAM with 8GB which is another few hundred.
I just uncrated the lappy and powered it up for the first time. Very sweet. I'm sure there'll be some issues, but I hope they'll be kept at a minimum. I honestly don't think the touchpad is as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I dislike the rocker button switch, however. Separate buttons would've been preferable.
BTW, one of the first things I did was hook my iPod up to the M17x and connect a cable from the integrated sound to my stereo. No pops or stutters so far. Fingers crossed.
Also, the M17x has no problem whatsoever fitting into the laptop sleeve of my old Odyssey backpack that used to be home to my m7700a. The sleeve has probably been stretched out a bit over time by the old machine (big enough in its own right), allowing the M17x to slip right in.
