What happens if you flip ZIF PATA connector on D420?

I bought a new MTRON PATA ZIF SSD (32GB), but my D420 did not recognize the drive. I tried twice an then put my original Toshiba back and the latop worked fine. Rocket Disk suggested to flip the cable in order to try to fix the issue. That did not work either. But the problem now is D420 is not detecting even the original Toshiba 1.8". Have I fried the laptop?

I flipped the cable going into the ZIF socket. Since the connectors are on one side of the plastic base, I would think flipping should not normally make a connection. But I am not too experienced with ZIF PATA connectors.

(I posted this in another forum and did not get any response)

TIA

It may well be fried, Power and data come through specific pins, if you applied power along the wrong lines it could kill the drive, or blue a thermal fuse on the motherboard.

Generally with ZIF connectors they're only conductive on one side so flipping shouldn't cause a problem. I would doublecheck your connections again and make sure that all of them are oriented correctly.

I tried several times but the hard disk just won't get detected. I could successfully boot into LinuxMint using the CD drive though.

I suspect damage Power Supply regulators on the board. Where can I get it fixed for a nominal cost? I saw several auctions in eBay where I can mail it in and get it fixed. Are there better/cheaper places? A similar thing happend with me an year ago and I just replaced the whole motherboad myself. This time I am trying to be more frugal!

Thanks!
