gtx 260m in 7811fx

Thread Starter
Hey guys, currently have the 7811fx with the 9800m gts 512mb. I freaking love it. With every bone in my body. It does how ever need a overclockable bios, a better cpu and gpu. I need to play nfs shift on max... like now..because iam contemplating a new rig. And i don't want to sell my laptop. So my questions are....

Does anyone know of a hacked bios for the 7811fx or would like to be commissioned to make one by me? Or does anyone know of a way to overclock my damn cpu because it bottlenecks my video card like craziness.

Also

Is their anyway to put the gtx 260m from the newer fx series laptops in mine? It has the same chipset, so i assume they are using the same motherboard to keep it cost effective. So why the hell wouldn't it work? There is no way a gtx could need that much more power.

1. Have you updated your rig with the latest BIOS?

2. Try this "OC" tool from nVidia itself?

cheers ...

Not sure (doubting very much) that you can swap out graphic cards in any Gateway models other than replacing the whole board.

I heard that the GPUs on the Gateway FX are soldered on the motherboard directly. Unless some exciting nights are to be spent with heat guns, I wouldn't recommend you go that route.

You can always upgrade the cpu - nothing stopping you from doing that, as long as its pin / socket compatible. Especially if you think the CPU is the bottleneck.

Only 2 ways to oc the 7811.

1) buy a X9100 or X9000 processor and use Throttle Stop.

2) PLL mod on the MB and using Set FSB. Requires some soldering skills. May also need more v core through pin modding.

As for the 260m, would require a MB replacement.

Firstly, thats 3 ways isnt it?
secondly, there are more http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Intel-Core-2...ht_4149wt_1137
Although its technically not legal to resell ES cpus, everyone does it. They tend to have unlocked multipliers

it supports quad cores, right? I think ALL q9100 are ES, definitely all q9200. I'm running mine at 2.92ghz with throttlestop.

make sure its a GTS, not a GS, cause u can flash the vbios from GS>GTS for a performance boost...
or just overclock it.

Alright technically yes, 3 ways + . Not up much on the other X's as I went directly with a X9100 QHBQ which is an ES version. The SLB48 would be OEM, also unlocked.
I run mine at 3.3 @ 1.175v in a FX7811. Have seen a high of 3.7 in a 7805.

Sadly the 7811, 7805 do not supports quads. The 7808 does. No one so far has been able to figure out what the difference between the MB's are though.
