yep have done 2 tests so far SeaTools couldn't find any drive even tho the drive is a Seagate Momentus.

Salvation scanned the drive without any probs

I wiped the drive overnight using Dariks Nuke and Boot

and now I'm trying to install XP Pro SP3,

its at 88% (formatting) and looking good so far, in fact its now I think installing the OS come on!!!!

But drive is maybe suspect so we'll see what happens if the install is successful

cheers guys

Use free avast. You just have to re-register every 14 months but its very good (AV)
As for spyware etc Malwarebytes is free and also very good. Just make sure you update it after installing and everytime before using it.
Another good one that works in the background and very inobtrusive and stops crap from loading is SpywareBlaster. Update it and get the new signatures every few days. I use all three and they complement each other very well. Have never been bothered by any nasties
