inspiron 9300 screen crapped out, pic included

inspiron 9300 out of warranty, it's more than 4 years old
in the past few months i noticed some minor screen snowing that went away with time or repower of the system. while using pc tonight the screen all the sudden crapped out. don't know if i should replace the part or just sell it as is for scrap

the bar also changes color and is there regardless (bio, safe mode, normal ...)

i haven't hook it up to an external monitor because it's kind a hassle this late but will try tomorrow

bios still a04 since the battery died 4 year ago and i'm too cheap to buy one since it's plugged in 24/7

any ideas? i've read some thread about vertical lines and stuff but this is no line, it's 1/3 of the screen

thanks

LCD screen is toast. I'm still using my hacked 9300 2nd to an XPS710 desktop. A few months ago I noticed 2 single pixel width lines top to bottom and are still there. They haven't expanded like yours though still annoying as hell.

I'll be looking for a replacement LCD soon though.

thanks.. btw how did you figure it was the lcd and not other stuff like the back light or inverter ?

sorry if i can't post link but would this work?

If it was the backlight the whole screen would be very dim or dark.

Also if the display works on an external monitor then you pretty much garantee the LCD is crapped.

That screen in the link should be fine, the resolution is WXGA, you could also put a WUXGA 1900 x 1200 screen

external display works fine so it's most likely the screen itself

is the wuxga a direct swap of the original ? i found one on ebay for about +$10 looks pretty good. what do you think? the down fall is it's only warranted for 4 months instead of 3 years on the wxga listed above.

Either screen will work in the 9300

will everything else be compatible? do i need to upgrade the wires since i'm upgrading the screen? thanks
post #9 of 32
Should not have to touch the wires, one-to-one swap for you in this case, be careful when removing the cable connector behind the screen.

just got replacement screen tonight but i'm stuck.

"Use your fingers to separate the bezel from the display back cover by pulling the lower-right corner of the bezel down toward the bottom edge (A) of the display assembly to clear the tab on the bottom of the lower-right corner. Then pull the bezel toward the right side of the display assembly to clear the tab on the side (B) of the lower-right corner."

from the dell online guide for replacing screen

i followed the direction but can't get the bezel off without trying to break it

i can get the middle bottom portion off easily but the 2 lower corners are like glued on. what am i doing wrong here ?

thanks

got the replacement installed. it's a samsung LTN170BT08-G01

i can't adjust the brightness and i think the correct inverter is needed. i'm still using the original LG inverter

there's no dead pixel but there's 1" x 1" area of lighter checkers on top left corner only noticed with gray background

restarted a few times and i have been getting entire screen of light purple checkers. the only way it's "fixed" is by a few times of FN + F8 - no more full screen checkers

I think this screen is a piece of sh!t, obvious i should return it for exchange right ???
