My xps 1640 runs perfect with samsung 256gb ssd with speed of 220mb. i have been looking for second hdd to help ssd to extend the life of it. by thinking i could add another ssd drive and use it as temp folders of browsers and some programs such as secondlife.
1- have tried putting a 8gb sd card. it was very very slow it did not work for me.(maybe a fast one might do, not sure)
2- im thinking at the moment buy a pcmcia converter for flashcard and buy one of the fast flash card use it as secondhdd. is there anyother way to add hdd. i was wondering can i add the ssd that eee(mini netbooks) drives in too this laptop. if there is slot for it ? or could you recomend me another way to put second hdd. i dont want external hdd with cables arround i want to embed the second hdd.
Thanks.

I just bought two class 6 8GB micro SDHC for like $37 including S&H. So 16GB total. The same 8GB SDHC was like $1 less. Class 6 is the fastest I am aware of.

Not to dissuade you from your plans but I don't have any specific recommendations at this time. That said I think your concern about limited writes are not a real world issue. The writes will out last what I think will be the desired life for you. I mean when they come out with 512GB SATA 3.0 for less than what you paid you might jump at those? Maybe even 1TB in a couple of years. I have not done the math for several months but even with a limited write cycle on a realistic level your SSD will outlast what anyone can expect from a HDD.

Hi powerpack, i did not try SDHC yet. but i did try a normal fast one with write speed of 1.6mb second read about the same. browsers worked very slow when i address the temp folder to sd. also i think sata3 512 ssd wont reduce there prices next 5 years.
i really wonder if there is a slot in xps 1640 that i could buy another 8 or 16 gb ssd card only and plug in like netbooks has other then this i found another way but too expensive(need to have 8gb ram) and loading win7 might take long time. it is virtual ram disk method. when turning off the system it takes image of the virual ram drive, and mount and load it at the startup . this would take long time ,
so if anyone knows a way add another drive to this xps 1640 please let me know.thanks.
