ive tried it with powermizer enabled and disabled, no effect, fan remains the same and gpu reaches about 101 degrees C then fps drops because of the heat i assume

I am stumped. Back to Vista or 32bits, and shoot a note to nVidia. Hopefully someone else can chip in on this.

if all else fails im looking at ordering one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-3-Fan-Ligh...item3a5572522c what do you think?

Not bad of a price at all. You want to point a desk fan to your comp and see if there is significant difference. But a cooler is always good when one games.

Have you tried an ACPI update or installed ACPI drivers... ACPI controls fans within the OS... I read through the overclockers post and his model was an ASUS G50vt.. It lists an ACPI driver on their downloads section (under ATKACPI) and it may work on the Alienware...

could you copy the link?

I am not sure that ACPI drivers are being made available after XP.

nvidia forums havnt helped either yet, someone else has the same problem though

ASUS always put an ACPI patch in for their motherboards esp for Vista.. I notice the same with their laptops - I would link, but the ASUS download site won't allow a direct link...

Would you download the file and put it up to mediafire or attach it here in your post if it is not so large?

I am using your info to download and attach the file here for Windows 7 64bits for OP to try out. Correct me if I picked up the wrong file.

No thats the right one, cheers... I don't use file or picture hosting sites (I tend to sign up and forget and the account dies).. Signed up though with mediafire, I'll see how it goes...

There seems to a lot of issues with laptops that are upgraded from XP/Vista to win7 with this and other ACPI issues, reading through the web.. HP is a big culprit... I guess, new laptop for win7 in some cases...

Yeah, looks like Alienware would have to release it - worth trying though....

If you can point me to the file name and version number, we can co-ordinate and get them down. I have no clue as far as external ACPI driver inside Vista and W7 since MS incorporates them into the OS.

I agree that W7 is still new yet for the correct ACPI handling, and new machines. Vista had some issue at the beginning as I recall.

That file was the right one, sorry if my post seemed a bit confusing... Still trawling this through google, no promising results yet... Looks like Clevo (Sager) opted not to use the 9800m due to cooling issues...

I would leave win7 on though and use a notebook cooling tray for the time being - M$ or Alienware (DELL????) may release an update... All newer M15x's seem to be supplied with 240's or 260 GPU's....

You want to give this driver mod a shot? It is for Vista 64bits, and should work for W7 64bits.

As always clean out the previous driver first.
