Dell Inspiron 9400: Slowdown CPU + BIOS bug/problem?!

This will not happen all the time, in fact I'm using the laptop right now and it's working fine. But when it does happen will be like...

Issue description: Using the notebook, suddenly it will TOTALY slowdown, Windows will freeze. ALL fans will go FULL FORCE and VERY loud, more than it goes when they're under full load in operating mode. In another direction, CPU will FULL clockdown to something like 100~200Mhz thus Task Manger will show 100% CPU utilization. There will be no other choice than force a restart or hold the power button.

I was searching (google) for this kind of issue I'm having with my Inspiron 9400 and I've found some people where there were having EXACTLY the same problem I'm having, so I see that's I'm not alone on this.

This is the thread link: Help with a Dell Inspiron 9400

In fact, unfortunately it got closed I have no idea why, because it was not solved and I was first going to post over there...

But... looking at that closed thread in the last post, I see pretty much of what I've noticed here with my lappy:

- The issue about ALMOST ZERO performance its not related to some software (OS), like Windows, I had the same issue in different Windows versions and instalations (Windows XP / Vista / 7). Nor spyware/virus/etc.

- The nearest information I got by the time I was having the SUPER SLOWDOWN PERFOMANCE, I opened a Intel Utility and saw that the CPU cores were running SUPER SLOW = between 100~300Mhz (I can't remember right, I've got a printscreen but I can't find it right now), that's why Windows Vista and 7 couldn't almost respond to mouse moviments and would take minutes to open the "start menu".

- I tried to get notebook in standby mode and power it up again to see if the CPU cores would come back to normal speed, but no luck.

- I tried to hibernate and power it up again, still no luck pretty much all the time I tried.

- I tried go to BIOS when I hibernate and change some CPU related settings, for example, disable/enable XD, disable/enable SpeedStep, disable/enable Dual core, enable/disable Virtualization... still no luck.

- I already ran the DELL DIAGNOSTICS on startup, all passed OK.

- Finally what I see, the only solution to date I've found is to do a full power down and restart, is the best alternative to temporarily-solution the problem, this BUG happens with me like once between 1~2.5 months in avarage.

- I'm running the latest A10 BIOS from Dell, still has the same problems... Dell Support seems to not care about it, why? Because I just found someone that seems to have pretty the same issue my notebook, and he posted on DELL forum and didn't have ANY reply, take a look here: http://en.community.dell.com/wikis/l...ge-is-100.aspx

There must be a way to find out what's the causes.

PS: Just a note, I tried to clean the vents few days ago, it seems to be clean by looking outside, indeed the bottom of notebook gets PRETTY HOT most of the times, even I'm just (web) surfing. This is strange, but I have to confess that I hate NVIDIA and their FAULTY 7900 series... I'll have to disassemble it and apply AS5.

Thanks for attention.

As far as cleaning the fan goes - you have to open up the laptop nad remove the fan to clean it completly.

Any ideal what your temps were when you experiance this problem

Yes, I'll open it and clean completly. It sounds strange but the "bug" just happens sometime between periods of months like I stated before.

I'm not sure about its temp when it froze but I'll keep on eye next time (if it ever happens again).

I'll get back here when I clean it!

Thanks
