A general Pavillion Dv7t thread about reliabillity, and info that can be helpful

Thread Starter
Hello, if there is a thread already for this, sorry, feel free to delete or whatever.

But anyways, I have been on the forums for a couple of years, and started out here with a nice lil' Dell Inspiron E1505. Ever since october of 2009, I have replaced it with an HP Pavillion Dv7t-2000 due to gaming capability purposes and power purposes for college and such. Overall i am very pleased with it so far. I wish I could have spent more time looking (I see now that Asus has some nice ones With the GT 260M for under 1500$ now) but I didn't have too much time to look so for a quick find, it was a good deal.

So anyways, basically my questions are for other Dv7 owners or people who have experience with the Dv7's:
Any certain things I have to watch for that are notorious with this model? Quirks, reliability issues, etc? Especially anything GPU related (specific Q: Will the GPU basically melt the motherboard becuase of its power cravings? I have the ATI radeon 4650)
Any helpful tips or things you have came across using this model for as long as you have?
are you satisfied with your purchase?
Are you finding the gaming capabilities to be pretty good (anyone running crysis with the 4650 with decent FPS?....doesn't matter what settings)

I felt like posting this because I have been hearing alot of crap about HP and how they are losing money big time with how they are offering alot for the prices they have. I know every laptop is not the same, but I am curious about other peoples experiences using the Dv7.

Quick question: is it normal for the fan to always be running? Mine does, but at a low low speed most of the time, only speeding up for some Call of duty and Left 4 dead action . Dunno if it is normal for it to be even running at a low speed all the time, so I'd thought I would ask.

Any replys would be nice. I'd be happy if this thread doesn't even get locked or deleted.... I don't post threads often, more of a replier.

Thanks!

I don't own a DV7 so I can't comment specifically, but generally the specs in this machine is good and solid for gamers.

ATI HD4650 is a decent card for all purposes, a good set of drivers would make the system performs well.

Can't tell you about this HP model fan, but HP in general can run a bit warm. We own a few of them. And they last forever

cheers ...
