We heard through the grape vine that Alienware would be showing off some cool new things at this years CES 2010, and today they did just that, introducing a sub $1000 11 inch netbook called the M11x.

Reports are coming in as the following specs:
  • 6 1/2 hours of battery life (battery mode)
  • 2 hours of "intense gaming"
  • 3D mark scores in 6-7k range
  • 50FPS Crysis, 30FPS CoD on High Settings
  • Under $1000

More information will soon be released as the show continues...

IMO it's a dumb idea. You're not going to have a chance in hell of gaming well on a screen that small. And I don't consider anything >10" a netbook.

Actually I think that AW read this NBF thread

cheers ...

But how much skill does l4d really need? :P

Not sure, but gaming on a net-book by itself can be something of a novelty

cheers ...

Wicked! I think that I have changed my mind about getting the ASUS UL30vt.

I'm totally pickin one of these up. I think this is a great idea. It's cheap, it can game, and you can pack it up and bring it to a LAN if you want. Considering my m5750 is over 3 years old, i believe I'm scheduled to make a new notebook purchase.

I'm needing something small that I can transport and doesn't weigh 8 lbs.

There's reports it's a Core 2 Duo of some sort. No model yet. Something new maybe?

So far from bits and pieces, the m11x will sport the NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics.

And many are guessing/betting that it will use N450 as CPU ... one of a few explanations toward the 6 hours of battery usage, even though it has been floating around that a Core 2 Duo will be fitted.

Ahhh, 16:9 and massive sceen bezels, the two go hand in hand it seems
post #14 of 35
I am thinking about this. I like small, lightweight with some power. this fits the bill. I heard the cpu is C2D, thinking CULV. That might make it interesting.

now just waiting for some full specs.

Full specs would be nice. Strange that it made the introduction with fanfare, showing it playing a game, yet totally quiet on the introductory specifications.

Still in the prototype phase?

cheers ...

Hmm.......You mean the way Asus keeps the most powerful 14" because actual unit size is closer to 15"? Like on mine?
Nope, specifically meaning 16:10 v 16:9, it seems to be a trend to keep the same depth and add width for 16:9, asus are doing better than most in this regard from the models I've been looking at, but it looks common for 16:9 notebooks to have a bigger footprint, with a reduced area 16:9 screen, thus bigger bezels.
This notebook and the M15X sibling remind me of those early laptops where only half the panel was screen...not quite, but heading that way

They could have put in a 16:10 12.1" screen in the M11X and probably still had bezel left over, as there is only .15" difference in width and almost 1" difference in height which would make it far more appealing and useful, while not adding any size to the physical notebook....but they didn't

It's cool and nice, but would be cooler and nicer with a 12.1" panel

The media capabilities of this PC alone are looking outstanding and for 1,000 dollars with the HDMI hookup size, and media capabilities, throw in a blu ray player and keep it roughly that price I'm SOLD!

Couldn't agree more. I want to wait and see what other options they're going to make available.

I'm also going to be getting one of these when it comes out and id prefer the screen closer to 11'' than 12'' just because even the smaller amounts of battery life do count. It sounds like its gonna be a great little laptop and you can tell by my signature that it's time I upgraded.
