Gateway Launches Newest EC Series Laptops

The EC14D keeps the compact form factor of its model line, but adds an integrated DVD player. The EC14D measures 11.49 inches by 8.33 inches by 1.12-1.18 inches (HWD) and weighs in at 3.55 pounds. Its LED-backlit LCD screen measures 11.6 inches and has a 1,366-by-768 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. Ports include three USB 2.0 ports, as well as Ethernet and HDMI ports. Also built in are a multi-gesture touchpad, integrated webcam, and a multimedia card reader. Wireless connectivity comes via 802.11n Wi-Fi.
The EC14D comes with a 1.3-GHz SU4100 ultra-low-voltage CPU, a mobile Intel GS45 Express chipset, and 4 Gbytes of DDR2 memory (which is upgradeable to 8GB maximum). It comes with a 320-GB, 5,400-RPM hard drive and a DVD player. The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit). Finally, the EC14D comes standard with a 6-cell Lithium-Ion battery.

The EC14D will be available in late January at retail stores and online, at $629.99 (list).

Gateway is also rolling out the Gateway EC58 thin and light laptop. The EC58 has a one-inch thickness and a 15.6-inch LED-backlit display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1366 by 768 (WXGA) resolution. Users can choose from an ultra-low voltage Intel Core 2 Duo or Pentium dual-core CPU. It also has integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi and a high-capacity 6-cell lithium-ion battery.

The Gateway EC58 will also be available later this month, with prices starting at $649.99 (list).
