MSI Wireless card

My friend has a msi ex620us laptop. It is about 7 months old and the wireless card is coming up as "disconnected". It detects available networks but won't connect. Hopefully the warranty will take care of this but I was wondering if anyone knew if this was a card that could be removed and how difficult it would be to do so.

I took the large panel off and it wasn't in sight. Didn't feel like taking off the whole bottom but assume one could do this without too much difficulty. Does anyone know? thanks

Is that the correct model that you jot down? I could not find any references to it.

Technically the model is
MSI EX620-1W1US

On the bottom of the laptop it says model 1674
thanks

Most of MSI I have seen hide the wireless card under the palm rest cover. Not sure about this model, I need to dig up some more later, it is very late where I am at the moment.

What have you done so far in trying to resolve the "disconnect" issue? Detecting the networks but not be able to connect to them sounds more like a software and/or settings issues.

I had to give the laptop back to the girl as she is headed back to school. There is some question as to whether they registered it and so I told her to check her stuff and make sure it is. I hope it isn't too late to register it. They do have the receipt. I couldn't believe they didn't even know if they had or not.

I uninstalled the card and software and reinstalled it at least 3 times but it made no difference. If you go into device manager it says the card is working properly, but if you go into network connections, it says it is disconnected, yet something is recognizing the wireless networks in the air. thanks

I would review the settings between the router and the wireless connection, firewall as well. DHCP? Passwords? ...

I am no expert when it comes to networking. As far as the DHCP settings, I would not really know what to look for or do. The fact is that it was working fine at school with whatever setup they have and it was working at my house when I set it up and all of the sudden it quit. So I don't think software is the issue. The only thing I didn't do was a reinstall of windows but that will have to wait until after semester.

If it works at school and sometimes at the house, then it is more likely the connection settings that need to be adjusted for the home router.

A good read as how to play with the settings to make it work. I cannot walk you through since I have no idea how the network setup and configuration of your environment. I can only suggest where to look for possible answer and resolution.

Re-installing would solve everything, providing that the wireless connections given from any sources are standard - i.e. DHCP enabled with no encryption.

Of course, the problem is that it isn't working anywhere at all. I do have the DHCP enabled properly I think and it was never changed anyway. Unless windows randomly changed something on its own, I don't know what a reinstall would do. thanks

Re-install just set everything back from zero. I made the remark because of you mentioning it But I personally don't think that you would need to resort to that, just yet.

You can try un-install and re-install the wireless device, or sometimes, if you can see the option when right clicking on the wireless icon on the system tray - choose "let Windows manage the wireless network" (or something in that nature)

Download winsockfix, run it and try again... The usual problem though is the cards bundled software to manage wireless networks and wireless zero config conflicting (even when one is disabled) - common in ACERs network management, and in reality no different with others... Run the software and set and save a profile (with windows zero config disabled in services) and see what happens...

Thanks Mr. T.

I will do this the next time I get hold of the laptop. She took it back to school and in a few days it started to work. I do not know if it has been working consistently though. An odd problem in deed.
