Hello -

I am using a HP Pavillion 9810us laptop. I have never had a problem with Itunes. Now I am having all sorts of problems. When I installed Itunes on a clean install of Windows Vista 32bit, It seemed like Itunes corrupted the sound card driver.

How do I fix this? As I am not getting anywhere with Apple Support and HP

Can you give us a bit more info?

. corrupting sound card drivers: meaning you can't use the audio other than with iTunes only?

. what steps have you tried so far in trying to correct the issue?

I cant use the audio for anything the icon is a speaker with a big red x and says no audio output device is installed. Like I said it occurred after installing Itunes. I have tried to uninstall Itunes, restored the computer to factory condition, tried installing the Microsoft UAA bus drivers which doesnt detect on device manager and we cant reinstall the sound card drivers as it says media or audio device not detected. Any other steps to take to try to resolve this issue?

What version of OS are you running?

Usually you need to install the audio driver after the Microsoft UAA bus drivers, or a patch from MS.

Im using Windows Vista Premium 32 bit edition. Is there a good place to get the UAA drivers that might actually work as Ive tried installing them then restarting my PC after installation, and when I install the audio drivers i get the same error saying MEDIA or DEVICE not detected and that is after installing the bus drivers. Could it be a bad registry entry or do I need to toss this notebook and get another one?

I take it that you have tried the drivers direct from HP here?

Can you confirm which audio device you have on the comp? Conexant or Realtek?

Yes I have tried the drivers at the listed link you have given me. Im using a Conexant audio device, I cannot get the UAA driver to post in device manager. When I uninstalled Itunes Apple had something that said Apple System Bus Controller in their install and Im wondering if this has something to do with it. Without the UAA driver in the device manager, there isnt anything that says sound or audio devices in there either as it disappeared when my girlfriend installed Itunes. Ive tried installing the driver through recovery manager, it worked last time this happened but doesnt this time. Any more advice?

Check out Device Manager (right click my computer-> manage) under Sound, video and game controllers. If there's anything there remove it by right clicking -> uninstall.

And uninstall iTunes before trying this. Then reboot after and your sound card should be redetected and reinstalled. If not, run the driver setup.
