I only posted to help, and had I not been through his exact situation twice, and actually solved the problem I wouldnt have been so assertive in the defense of my position.
No, I haven't 'given up' on my computer. Where exactly is it that you heard the alleged rumor?

I never tried to steer him away from the 'proper' solution. But I too, have been in this situation before, and in my case, updating the BIOS fixed the problem. Just remember, your way isn't the only way. Again, let other people have the chance to give some input.

Hey Arch, I just wanna try and make amends. I guess we were both a little peeved at the time of those posts. I'm pretty confident that you're a sentia guru (as Craig so quaintly put it) and I know that you'd be the one I'd talk to if I had problems. But Area-51ms's are great too, and you know it. So can we be friends?

We cool, I just have a differing oppinion about 51m2's

I think DTR owners stroke too much when compared to desktop gaming, and DTR dont hold a candle to centrinos w/ gfx. jmho though

Are you sure??? :-)

That's quite a specific number Arch. How the hell did you figure it out to that many decimal places!? I don't even remember pi that far... (but i did memorize (like 4 years ago) to 152 digits for the sake of a rather large chocolate bar...)

Wasn't there a problem with the switch next to the hinge for the monitor?

I thought I read about people that had this issue that were able to fix it by playing with the pin that is on the switch. Seems in some machines the switch hangs a little.

Don't know, but thought I'd mention it.

Ok, I want to bring back the original issue about the monitor going off. I am having a problem where I boot into windows (from hibernate or cold) and all is good. The XP welcome screen comes on and then after a few seconds the screen goes blank

I've done the driver re-install with original AW GFX and latest Intel and i still get this I'm on 1.16 Bios too. It's a royal PITA as sometimes it takes ages for me to be able to use the damn thing...

I started to have this on my Dell laptop. This is not a recommended fix just what I did to mine.

I used to help this guy at his PC shop. His cure for a computer with a really nasty virus was to Zero out the drive before reinstalling windows.

Well I got in the habit of every 3rd reinstall on mine that I zero out the drive and I did that to mine and reinstalled windows havent had the problem since.

Just my 2 cents.

This is how I'm having to get my Sentia to boot up normally:

When the Alienware logo comes on from a cold boot, hit Del until you see yourself going into the BIOS. Then go to the Exit menu, load up the optimal defaults, and then save changes and exit. Upon reboot, my laptop usually goes into sleep mode before the Windows XP loading screen comes up, so I just tap the power button to bring it out of sleep mode and it boots normally. This is a frustrating issue since it takes a lot longer to boot up than it should.
Im on a clean install(NON AW XP) with 1.15 bios and latest intel drivers.

I HAD this problem but its gone now!

coming out of the deeper sleeps is still problematic, but dont have the screen black problem anymore that this threads about, to the bst of my recollection it was a driver issue but(somehow affected even bios level operation). Once I put in newest Intel drivers problem is gone!
OK, new problem.

I updated the video drivers and it's looking great at native resolution (old drivers would only let me go up to 1280x1024).

When I cold boot now, the system goes to the black screen with which I'm becoming familiar, but now I can hit the power button, put it into standby and then hit it again to have to boot normally. It doesn't even get the chance to load up Windows before going into standby.

The situation is similar to my last post, but now I don't have to go into the BIOS and then reboot again.

Still having black screen issues though. Has anyone been able to get anything from AW about this issue?

What version BIOS do you have Petros?

I suggest update BIOS if the older version. Be sure to have AW on the phone to keep your warranty intact.
I solved the problem by booting into safe mode, uninstalling vid drivers, rebooting normal and installing new intel ones, not sure- but I think AW XP has drivers located in a directory that in the PATH so it might see those first and try to install them, not sure though.
