G71GX-A2 keyboard unresponsiveness; PLEASE HELP!!!

Asus laptop keyboard unresponsiveness. PLEASE HELP!!
I own an Asus G71GX-A2 laptop with Windows 7 64-bit. I have been encountering a strange issue with my keyboard lately.

When holding down a key such as "W" in notepad for instance, it will repeat the letter for a short while, then as if I'd lifted my finger, it will stop for a moment, and then continue repeating W. If this sounds too vague, allow me to provide a more concrete example.

When playing a game that requires the "W" key to be suppressed to move forward (it's worth noting this problem occurs with other keys as well) eventually the character will stop moving, even though I still have my finger on the "W" key. This will then require me to lift my finger and re-press the key.

If this problem doesn't sound very severe, consider that it's been occurring more and more frequently as of late, seriously interfering with whatever game I am playing.

Additionally, it's worth mentioning that when I plug in my wireless Logitech keyboard to the laptop, the problem is nonexistent when using it for the same functions. No third-party drivers installed or anything.

Does anyone have insight into how I might go about
resolving this issue? I apologize if my explanation is a tad wordy, but I must include every detail I feel is relevant so that I may effectively find an answer.

Thank you for your time.

I'd also like to mention that this problem is nonexistent on every other computer I've tested, including two Gateway laptops.

I'd recommend taking out the keyboard and checking for debris. There might be lint or dust that's interfering with the key connection.

I doubt Djembe is correct. The way it presents does not match.

A very sensible and simple first approach.

Also, does it start with the hesitation right away at system starts or after a while?

cheers ...

The hesitation starts after a while, but there's no rhyme or reason to it.... it could happen after 5 seconds, or it could happen after 30. That's what frustrates me the most I think.

Have you checked background processes and see if anything is out of the norm? How is your virus scanner setting?

I actually don't have a virus scanner installed BUT, I've reformatted a number of times in the past few weeks, and with every fresh install of the OS, the problem still persists. Maybe I have reason to believe it's hardware related afterall.

I would take Djembe suggestion above - remove the keyboard and clean it out first. Be careful with the cable ribbon.

Correct to rule things out from a diagnostic standpoint. But that said I just thought take a jump with the symptoms. Your idea is/was good. I just wonder? If I use the control key for games it thinks it is stuck and warns me/stops working? But external works for him. I hope your guys ideas work because I have no answer but to disagree. And that does not help OP solve the problem?

One thing I must mention is there was and are issues with Asus keyboards not recognizing keystrokes. I am not a typist I hunt and peck with one hand, I certainly press hard and key strokes are missed. I take great effort to edit my posts for spelling (can't do composition yet?). I have already had to go back on this post (Asus) 5+ times. Short of pressing and putting my finger through this notebook what can I do?

Do a Google on "missed keystrokes". There is an issue and it lines up with your issue. It is a flaw. Sorry best I can provide at this time.

Good luck. If I can out type with one hand hunt and peck? Asus keyboards are not for the serious typers. Or gamers?

Edit: On a musical keyboard we might say has limited "polyphony" it is like well has no polyphony and thinks you are keystroking what you are not and jams you?

Exactly, that was enough reason to take a shot at looking stuck keys on the internal.

There was nowhere that Djembe and myself said that it would work. It was being suggested as of the 1st thing to look at.

If it works, great - we were lucky.

It not, well ... next step - new keyboard?

cheers ...

w key stuck for Asus notebook even after reinstallation of OS. Well I just used compressed air. Press the key w several times. Still does not work. I cannot open my laptop since it is new and have to check on the Warranty. The only problem, I live in Central America, Belize, and I ask a Canadian friend to get it for me and deliver it to me when he comes to Belize. I have use it for two months.
But even before this happen, I had a virus..and had problem with c:/windows/fonts/service.exe missing and windows/system32/ms2tucot.dll missing. Don't know what to do since I had done a system restore from the preinstallation of windows XP. Before the preinstallation I had a problem and the problem with the W still persist. I am not sure it is a coincidence that another person have the same issue.
Help!!

I would suggest going with a full clean installation then? Starting from zero first.

cheers ...
