As per usual m1710 gpu troubles...

Thread Starter
Aloha everyone! So like has plagued sooo many people, I'm feeling the pinch of my m1710 overheating alot.

Now it could just be dust, but seeing as that I cleaned it all out about 4 months ago, it's possible it's not all that.

Thing is, I AS5ed it about a yearish ago, and it ran GREAT!! now it seems like the fan doesn't blow as hard on full, and I'm unfortunately out of warranty, and unsure about buying a new warranty from dell.

I don't know wether or not I need to redo the AS5 job, my main questions are...
-Is there a gap sufficient enough on the 7950 go gtx dual heatpipe heatsink design that the gpu isn't quite mating right with the copper?
- If my fan is going on me, is there away to put a more powerful fan in? or will only a dell fan be recognized?

- Has anyone else had this problem of temperatures increasing over time other than having dustbunnies? aka has anyone had to redo their as5 and it becoming magically better.

The only other thing I can think of is that I recently tried to update my drivers but lost a lot of functionality in things and reverted to 84.69. I'm planning on upgrading to win7, but with these issues plagging the system....iunno.

My idle temps for the gpu right now at 2D clocks (60/50) is 58C in a 20C environment, and full blown gaming in the same enviroment is 92C max, and THAT's with the clocks posted in my sig, far, far, far below what this thing can do.

I appreciate any help you guys can offer, as usual. Hopefully it's not the fan. :S speedfan says it's going at 3000Rpm and updates correctly, so I'm thinking it's working right.

At the risk of losing a degree or two, but being less prone to drying out, have you considered a non drying TIM like MX2 or something similar? Most folks are unaware that AS5 needs to be replaced periodically - though I'm not certain that is the source of your temp issues. It's at least a good start to open it up and have a look at the physical source of your problems.

open it up and check the Fans,

Considering the price of a GPU, it would not hurt to do the GPU and CPU thermal paste over again.

it is possbile the fan is crapping out as well, still need to open it up and take a look at it.
