Recommendations for a new laptop...help needed!!

Hello,

New to the forums. Just sold my acer 14" laptop and currently in the market for a new one.

These are my requirements:

1: 15" screen. Max 16"
2: hi-res LED screen
3. Excellent speakers

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Top of my head ... ASUS and HP are offering some good 15"-16" models at high resolution screens.

Speakers? ... hmm ... It would be a personal call/preference, since all notebooks speakers in my book are not made for music enjoyment Some small external noises would just "kill" the sound.

cheers ...

All notebooks are HD do you mean FHD or above?

A suggestion if I may, take a look at the XPS 16 from Dell. It's on sale for $1099 to start and it's a great laptop. (I love mine)

Value wise, look at acer, ASUS and Samsung are good (look for Harman Kadron speakers - some plusher models come with them)... SONY are nice, but expensive... Toshiba ain't bad either....

Powerpack was using abbreviations for "high definition" (anything above 1024x768) and "full high definition" (anything 1920x1080 or higher). What resolution are you looking for and what is your price range? Also, what do you expect to be using the computer for - programming, graphics design, gaming, business applications, mostly word processing and internet, or a combination?

Okay, so it seems like you're looking for a notebook with a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 screen resolution and Blu-Ray drive.

If it wasn't for the Blu-Ray drive, I'd recommend the Dell Studio XPS 16 with a Core i5 processor

It makes no sense that they don't offer the Blu-Ray drive with the i5.

I agree. I can't find where they offer a Blu-Ray option for any of the Studio XPS 16 models (Core 2 Duo, i5/i7 dual, or i7 quad), which is surprising because the notebook has a screen capable of handling Blu-Ray and many notebooks with a screen not capable of handling Blu-Ray come with a Blu-Ray drive anyway!

My XPS 16 has a Blu-Ray drive. They offered it pretty much from the beginning and somewhere along the way they stopped.

I agree with you guys on the BR. But does this give you guys any thoughts? I came across while researching a post. It is from HP but I must think it is not HP specific?

DISCLAIMERS: As Blu-Ray is a new format containing new technologies, certain disc, digital connection, compatibility and/or performance issues may arise, and do not constitute defects in the product. Flawless playback on all systems is not guaranteed. In order for some Blu-ray titles to play, they may require a DVI or HDMI digital connection and your display may require HDCP support. HD-DVD movies cannot be played on this notebook PC.
You guys think why the DeLL hesitation on releasing on mainstream systems?

It works perfectly on my system. I've never had an issue with watching Blu-Rays or anything for that matter...

Certainly, of course they can't sell when none work but are hedging their bets and giving themselves a back door. I am mostly intrigued by this what appears to be a complete lack of confidence in the product they are selling? I guess even though yours works this is at this least kind of an odd disclaimer?

Unless they're out of stock, but even then there would be a backorder date.

Back door to remove liability not "backorder"? They guarantee (HP) that if does not function properly not their fault? I think the HP disclaimer says something about the price of tea in China. They are having issues?

DeLL and HP are at the point of the same sword. Likely same company making both.

(I am post whoring, sorry)

My XPS 16 has good speakers, with a small sub-woofer. The sound is really good.
